Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick announced his late entry into the 2020 Democratic presidential primary Thursday. "I recognize running for president is a Hail Mary under any circumstances," Patrick told The Boston Globe. "This is a Hail Mary from two stadiums over." In his announcement video, Patrick, who served as governor of Massachusetts from 2007 to 2015, said that "I admire and respect the candidates in the Democratic field," but "if the character of the candidates is an issue in every election, this time is about the character of the country." Patrick's announcement comes less than three months ahead of the Iowa caucuses. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is also reportedly looking at joining the 2020 Democratic field.
