Pantone names a shade of purple in Prince's honor

Prince now has his very own Pantone color and, appropriately, it's a shade of purple. In connection with the Prince Estate, Pantone Color Institute announced Monday that it has developed a custom color in honor of the late musician known for his purple suits, his purple guitar, his purple piano, and his album Purple Rain.

The new Pantone color, inspired by Prince's custom-made Yamaha purple piano, is named "Love Symbol #2," after the iconic symbol the artist once used as his name. The hue will be "the official color across the brand [Prince] left behind" when he died in April 2016, a press release said.
