Watch Emmy stars jokingly celebrate having 'solved' diversity in bizarre opening number

The 70th Emmys got off to an uncomfortable start on Monday night with an opening number mocking … diversity? Saturday Night Live co-stars Kate McKinnon and Kenan Thompson announced in their opening remarks that the 2018 nominees are the most diverse in Emmy history, and proceeded to celebrate that fact with a literal song and dance skewering Hollywood's self-congratulatory attitude toward representative casting. Too soon?

To give you a taste: The number included the actual line "we solved it/we fixed it/we Cynthia Nix'd it." Watch the bizarrely conceived skit — featuring a guest appearance by Sandra Oh quipping "it's an honor just to be Asian" — in full below. Jeva Lange
