Remember that Georgia special election Jon Ossoff narrowly lost? A Democrat just won that seat.
Republican Rep. Karen Handel has conceded the House seat in Georgia's 6th District to Democratic challenger Lucy McBath, the mother of gun violence victim Jordan Davis.
McBath won by just .9 percentage points — a margin of 2,934 votes — after all precincts were counted Thursday, reports The New York Times. That's also when Handel issued a concession and congratulated McBath, tweeting that "it is clear that I came up a bit short on Tuesday."
In 2017, Handel won a narrow runoff over Democrat Jon Ossoff in what was the most expensive House race of all time. Longtime Rep. Tom Price (R) left the seat that year to become President Trump's Health and Human Services secretary. The seat has been in Republican hands since former House Speaker Newt Gingrich won it back in 1979, but it was declared a toss-up in the run-up to this election.

McBath, meanwhile, has been deeply involved in the Black Lives Matter movement since a white man shot and killed her 17-year-old black son in 2012. She made gun safety a hallmark of her campaign. Read all of Handel's concession statement here.
