Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 'doing great' after fracturing her ribs in a fall, her nephew says

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg already seems to be bouncing back after a nasty fall landed her in the hospital Thursday.

Ginsburg's nephew, Daniel Stiepleman, told Reuters she is "doing great" after fracturing three ribs in a fall Wednesday night and being hospitalized Thursday morning. "The last I heard she was up and working, of course, because what else would she be doing, and cracking jokes," he said at the Thursday premiere of On the Basis of Sex, a new movie about Ginsburg that Stiepleman himself wrote. "I can't promise they were good jokes but they were jokes," he added.

Ginsburg, who at 85 years old is the oldest Supreme Court justice, has recovered from similar injuries before; in 2012, she fell and fractured two ribs, but went back to work immediately, Reuters reported at the time. She has also survived cancer twice, and had heart surgery at the age of 81. Her hospitalization Thursday meant she was absent for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's investiture ceremony, but she has still never missed a day of oral arguments since she was appointed in 1993, NPR reports.
